Picture book following the budding friendship between a boy, who once was the new kid at school himself, and the immigrant girl Violet. Violet shows up to class one day shy and quiet, but the boy notices her pick up scraps of brightly colored plastic and leaves on her way home from school. One day, the boy asks Violet what she does with all the scraps, and she lets him see her colorful collage and room that reminds her of home.
