Description
While Civil Rights leaders agreed that the oppression of African Americans was unjust, they did not always agree on the methods that should be used to reverse that injustice. Martin Luther King Jr. founded the Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC) with the intention of leading a peaceful revolt, but Malcolm X, who belonged to the Nation of Islam, criticized King's philosophy of nonviolent resistance, arguing that it would be unable to produce any lasting change.
