Description
Scope and content: Personal papers of three members of the Fox family: Alberta O'Neill, her husband Peter, and their daughter, Anne Hester. Alberta O'Neill Fox's materials consist of a small datebook, probably manufactured in the late 1920s or sometime in the 1930s, in which she has made notations concerning birthdays, weddings, and dates of death of individuals, as well as personal and family medical events, such as surgeries, major illnesses, or hospitalizations. Notes are also included about weather events, especially snows in the 1950s, though the entry for March 14 briefly mentions the 1933 East Nashville tornado: "We were in direct path - was partially blown away." Also included in the book is a list of bond serial numbers from 1943-1949, and addresses for various individuals. A number of people are from Birmingham (presumably Ala.) and Bristol, Tenn. A few entries in the datebook are of a miscellanous nature, including notes about family pets, and a sticker on the inside front cover from the 1933 World's Fair in Chicago. The datebook is clearly not a calendar or diary of daily events; rather, it serves as a reminder. Dates appearing in individual entries range from 1882-1956, though it is certain that many of the dates noted in the book pre-date the manufacture of the book itself. Oversize items include diplomas from Nashville Public Schools, Grammar Dept. (1896); Nashville Public Schools, High School (1900); and Nashville YMCA Night Law School, Bachelor of Laws, 1934.
Description
Peter T. Fox's materials consist of membership cards and a letter from the Elks Lodge No. 323 in Bristol, Tenn. dating from 1911-1918, and a Nashville Public Library library card from 1952.
Description
Anne Hester Fox's materials relate to her employment at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Ohio, and include a certificate and pin for 20 years of service (dated 1963), a birthday letter (1971) and a script or poem in honor of her retirement in 1972. Oversize items include diplomas from Nashville Junior High (1931), and Vanderbilt University, Bachelor of Arts, (1937).
Description
Also included in the collection are copies of obituaries for the three family members, brief biographical information about Alberta O'Neill Fox's parents, and three photographs, c. 1930s-c.1972.
